How do I get my website to the top of Google? BryMundy.com Case StudyTranscriptHi, I'm Phil Parker, director at Lycosa Web Services Ltd. Today, I'm going to look at ways of boosting traffic to one of our clients - www.BryMundy.com, a company who specialise in industrial cleaning. After a brief discussion with the Ian, the owner, we decided to focus on one particular service, chewing gum removal. The very first thing I do is head over to Google Adwords to make use of their keyword suggestion tool, which will give me some ideas about alternative keywords, and also which keywords are actually being searched for in Google. So I start with the basic key phrase 'chewing gum'. As you can see, there are quite a few related key phrases listed. I select a handful of key phrases that have a good number of searches and save them as a text file. The next thing I do is to take these keywords and research them a bit more thoroughly with www.wordtracker.com. I am looking for niche keywords with a high Keyword Effectiveness Index, and low number of competing web pages. I select a handful of keywords that look promising, and use wordtracker to find the best keywords from this list. So I import all the keywords into a spreadsheet to make it easier to read. There is a good keyword here, which is 'who invented bubblegum', which has a possible 200-300 daily search with a low competition rate. If www.BryMundy.com gets top position for that keyphrase, it will get lots of clicks. Google counts every click, and use this 'click-through' data within their ranking algorithms. So, I research the topic and publish a short article on www.byrmundy.com. This page links to all the other pages on the website, which helps share the Page Rank around. Now that we have a new article page on the website, I create a sitemap to let Google know it is there. I use phpSiteMapNG for this. It is free and easy to use. I check the web stats using web ceo before and after to make sure that we are getting the results we want. We can clearly see that www.BryMundy.com has quite a low quantity of traffic. We should see this rise significantly in a week or so. Google will get around to looking at this, but to give it a kick-start, I will add a blog entry on my own website, www.lycosa.co.uk/blog.htm and ping it using www.pingomatic.com Not 12 hours later, I search Google for the term 'who invented bubblegum' appears on the first page of the Google search engine results, beating over 87,000 other entries for this term! After exactly one week since I started this project, I go back to check how well it is working. There, byrmundy.com is position #2 for this keyphrase. Scroll down, and my blog entry on www.lycosa.co.uk is still there. As you can see, there has been a 50-60% increase in the traffic flow to www.brymundy.com You can try this out for yourself, to see the results. Just go to Google and type in 'who invented bubblegum', click through on the link to brymundy.com and you will see the article. Thanks for watching, see you next time. |
