Online Kitchenware now on Esales v4

We updated Online Kitchenware to the new Esales system, which is now in version 4.

There are a number of key differences with version 4 which make our websites more search engine friendly. The key difference is that dynamic pages which were referenced as esales.htm?product_id=1234 can now use the actual product names within the link, such as http://www.onlinekitchenware.co.uk/Panasonic-SD255-Bread-Maker

This is obviously much more user friendly, and has the advantage that the search engines can now acces the actual product name directly within the link.

Online Kitchenware reviews

I am pleased to see some very good comments about the online kitchenware website, as we designed it. Not only are the comments great about the price and service at Online Kitchenware - they always offers a superb service - but that the website was easy to use, people could find what they were looking for, and so on. It is very encouraging, as OKW have been a customer of ours for 3 years now, and have gone from strength to strength. Take a look at some of the comments on Shopping.com.

We are always looking at ways to improve the website, and will be updating the site to esales version 3 in the new year. Updates always cause problems, and a month before Christmas is not the time to do it!

I am looking forward to the additional benefits esales 3 can bring, including complex taxonomy (where you can have the same item in lots of different categories), along with the latest addition to the Lycosa esales fold - the voucher system. Currently still being tested by another or our long standing customers; Lucid Research. They have been with us for over 3 years now, and are also a thriving business in the education field.

Looking forward to Christmas...
Phil

Inspired by StomperNet

As an internet promoter of other businesses, I keep abreast of new developments and tricks to help my customers achieve increased traffic, and therefore sales.

I was interested in some video tutorials from Stomper Net. Much of what they were saying was fairly standard, and one of them talked of traffic generation using the long tail. Investigating large numbers of keyword combinations which bring in small quantities of highly targeted visitors is what this is all about. This is nothing particularly new, but with one exception:

I looked at their test site - www.myweddingfavors.com - and was interested in the Google results.

How did they manage to get Google to list their key product categories in this way? And they are no.1, with a top Google Ad above, which is great.

So I started the investigation...

A quick view source reveals that the index page has a robots 'noindex' meta tag. This is telling the search engine spiders NOT to index this page. It doesn't say 'nofollow', so the sub pages will be indexed. The home page is actually indexed anyway.

I will therefore try to emulate this with a test site. I am going to use one of my dormant sites www.free-mp3-downloads-music.co.uk to test this on.

I will post my findings once I have some...

Bye for now.

Suba Diving Equipment Specialists, Seemann Sub announce website launch

Scuba Diving Equipment, Scuba Gear

Seemann Sub specialise in scuba diving equipment and announce the launch of their new website, www.seemann.co.uk.

This was a tricky site to create for us, because Seemann are a distributor, and so do not supply direct to the public. The ecommerce website we designed for them allows members of the public to select items from the catalogue, add them to basket and checkout in the normal way. The only difference is that the supplier is determined by the postcode of the customer. This posed many tricky problems, but we overcame them all and are proud to announce this website is now up and running.
